Peacock Wedding Cake

For the few of you who read this blog, or if you trace back to an entry from last year, I vented about a bad day I had...blah blah blah. Part of my bad day included the deletion of pictures I had just taken of a wedding cake I had just done. After a few emails to the bride, she finally sent me some pictures. The cake was set on a tree stump and was decorated with ribbon and feathers and topped with two wooden birds. (If you look closely you can also see where my sister put her hand, ugh!!) Here it is..

A Fish Cake

An old friend of mine asked me to do a fish cake for her sons' second birthday. She had a picture of what she had in mind, so my sister and I replicated it, in fun brighter colors. Hope they enjoyed, because we sure had a blast making it! Check it out.

Hollywood Sweet Sixteen

About a month ago, we received a request to do a sweet sixteen cake, Hollywood style. The girl wanted her cake to be a replica of a star from the Hollywood walk of fame, in her party colors, red and silver. Here is what my sister and I came up with.

A 3 Tiered Offset

My sister and I have continued to cakes, so seeing that I am playing catch up on the blog, here come a bunch of posts, nothin' but cake!

This cake was done right around Christmas time as well. And if you haven't noticed a pattern, I have been asked to do a lot of ribbon style cakes.(I have another one in a few weeks) All of these cake being slightly different, but very similar with the request of a ribbon bordering the bottom of each tier. This one is a 3 tier offset cake with ribbon and a simple design, accompanied by a extra top tier, made with confetti and sprinkles.(the grooms favorite)

A Cupcake Wedding

Like I said before, the few days before Christmas this year were spent in the kitchen. My sister and I were asked to do a cake for a Christmas themed wedding, the day after Christmas. The bride wanted cupcakes, 300 of them!! Let's just say I will be happy if I never have to do cupcakes again. Here are a few pics!

Aidens 4th Birthday

January came and went, along with Aidens birthday. This year we decided to do a joint birthday party with my niece, who is just two weeks older than Aiden. Can I just say that I think this was the best idea ever?!!!!!! My brother and I had talked about doing this in the past, but dates never seemed to pan out. This year we started talking about it right around Christmas, and neither of us were really getting motivated or excited about throwing a birthday party right after Christmas. We decided on a date and a theme and assigned all of the items we needed. It wasn't anything fancy, it was held at my brothers house in the back yard and we invited family and close friends. We did a knight and princess theme with crowns to decorate, balloon swords/animals, face painting by my very artistic sister, and of course a pinata. We had carne asada with chips and salsa, fruit, and a few other sides. Everybody really enjoyed the food, and we hope they had a good time as well! Here are some pictures of the party along with the birthday boy and girl. Elam with his favorite Tia

Yummy!!

Throughout the year, but especially during Christmas, I find myself in the kitchen making all kinds of desserts (I am sure like a lot of you). Yes most of the time it is some type of cake for someone, but I also like to stick to those "Never Fail" favorites. One of those favorites of everybody' is the fruit pizza. I had never seen this dessert until a few years ago my sister-n-law brought over for a barbecue we were having. Everybody raved about it, so I got the recipe and have been stealing it ever since. (Thanks Julie) I mix the recipe up just slightly by doubling the sugar cookie crust so it is nice and thick. I have made these for almost every event we've gone to, and sometimes it's even requested. This year, one of the managers in Wilbert's office asked if I could do a number of them for the clients they serviced. Here is a smaller version of the fruit pizza.

The light parade

Right around Christmas every year, APS puts on a light parade. This was the first time the kids had seen it, so they were excited to see all of the lights. Here are a few pictures from that chilly night.

Christmas cont.....

Here are a few more pictures from Christmas morning at home with the boys, and then later in the day with the whole family at my moms.

Yes, that's newspaper. The night I pulled all of the toys to wrap, I ran short of wrapping paper. I don't think the kids even noticed!

Could you tell Aiden still likes Batman??!!!!!

Christmas 2009

Ugh.....once again it has been a while. So now it's time to play catch up. I am apologizing now for the number of posts on one day, what can I say, I haven't blogged since Christmas. I am sure, like you can imagine, life's been busy.
Christmas was great this year, it's great every year but when you're prepared months in advance, it's REALLY great. Target does their mark down in the toy section, a few times a year, and this time I really took advantage. I was very patient, and waited for the toys to become 75%, and then loaded up. I ended up getting a few cart loads of toys, and spent less than $5 per toy. I was proud of myself, what can I say...easily pleased! There still happens to be a negative to all of this positive.....now we have so many stinking toys!!! It took days after Christmas to organize everything, find a spot for everything, and then eventually put it all away. It was great though, the kids enjoyed it, and that's all that matters.
Here are a few pics from Abuelitas on Christmas Eve...
Aiden is still into Batman, so he was a LITTLE excited about this from Tia Sariah and Tio Manny
I made tutus this year for all of the girls, here's Mariah. (a little wrinkled from the box)
No, that's not a girl, that's Elam. He's sitting with his Tia and cousin.
Aiden playing his guitar he got from his Abuelitos.
